The noble natives, evil white man thing has been done to death, and it seems like he's returning to the same ground as Abyss (floaty fairy creatures, nasty military ..... Perhaps it's a problem with downrezing the IMAX 3D experience down to a quicktime movie. It instantly makes what is large and spectacular look small, and easy to criticize. This is an instance where the only way to accurately judge something is to watch it the way it was .... This film would not be there if Ferngully and Dances with Wolves didn't exist. | 20 Aug 2009 Anyone know how to get a direct link to the 1080p trailer on apple's website. I don't want to use Quicktime. ... Except for the "sci-fi part, it sounded just like he ripped it off from Dances with Wolves (which, IMO is a great film). It sounded so corny and predictable and story line still doesn't grab me... I think it's just over hyped. It might make a great game, however as a "movie" I think it misses the mark for me. ... | 21 Aug 2009 Saw an Avatar trailer on Apple's Quicktime movie trailer site. The special effects look great, but I don't have a firm grasp of the plot. I guess this is a reverse, “War of the Worlds” story with us as the high tech invaders? ... Well, Nick , it's definitely not Apocalypto — maybe Dances With Wolves/Lawrence of Arabia-like, but NOT Apocalypto. Also, you may have seen 3D before but you haven't seen anything like this!
