ATSC MPEG2 vs. MPEG4 Compression? - Digital Forum
2 May 2009 by RingtailedFox
No ATSC broadcasters anywhere (except in test labs) currently use MPEG4, and no plans have been announced to roll it out anywhere yet. As for today's receivers, the tuner section of the circuitry would not require any changes. .... If anyone has plans to start broadcasting MPG4, I haven't heard it. There are pretty big incentives not to (no audience for it initially). And at over $1000 I too expect my TV investment to last a long time, though not quite 10 years. ...

What your regular ol' DV camera ..... Help here! DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR... - High Def Forum - Your High Definition ...
18 Nov 2007 by recrisp
(We're still using then HR250 in our living room, and we just watch OTA HD, I don't need to replace that $1000. box just right yet...) Thank you! (And I apologize for asking with what I'm sure is an old question) ... I also upgraded from my now relocated HD10-250 to an HR-21 without OTA but I now get my locals via satellite in MPG4 which were unavailable to the HD10-250. What I did lose was my PBS channel in HD (big issue) and the CW network in HD (no biggy). ...

Bob's Black Cloud: DirecTV HD DVR Cloudiness
18 Sep 2006 by Bob Reck
With the HR10, I can't get my local channels because they're coming off the satellite in MPG4 format and the HR10 can't decode it. The HR20 can decode MPG4 and will get locals in HD. The only option I had right now was an HR10 with an off- the-air antenna for HD locals ... I mentioned that I knew there was a new DVR on it's way and asked why they weren't offering any deals for the HR10. All the CSR told me was that they were $399 and they couldn't do any better. I hung up. ...

Kyte.tv vs. PodTech.net (Adobe announces new Flash player)
20 Aug 2007 by Robert Scoble
Because Rocky (my editor) brings my video into Final Cut Pro in near HD quality levels, edits it there, and then exports it to MPG4. This process takes a LOT longer than Kyte, but results in MUCH higher quality that you can see if you watch both videos. ... This is a major reason to build your own media distribution system like we have at PodTech. Inserting an advertisement? Possible on PodTech but not easily doable on Kyte. Keeping track of every little referer? ...

11 Nov 2008 by Darren Murph
Its not perfect and there are limits: no home network connection (but my S3 HD TIVO has that and this is much faster, easier to use and more flexible for photos/music and video). Plugging in a large HDD with lots of videos, music and photos will take the unit ..... Haven't tried turning it back on, yet. But it played xVid and MPG4 files just fine. Don't think will have time to mess around anymore tonight... but yeah, check thread above. over 110 pages of discussion on it. ...

3 Oct 2006 by Eideard
Let it go TV industry, we don't want your Digital Restrictions Management crappola. # 6 dkoonce said, on October 3rd, 2006 at 2:23 pm. I'd agree with the comments about HD being DOA. I blew a good bit on an HD TV almost two years ago. ... I 'm on 2nd-gen HD w/mpg4, now. Yes, there isn't enough bandwidth to carry enough product — via satellite, yet. 2007 sees the next 2 D* birds go up — to get them past the whining of “local” channels who have to be taken care of, first. ...
